Original Request
Given the recent advancements in search technology that incorporate conversational AI powered by large language models (LLMs), I'm interested in exploring how a similar chat-based interface could be implemented in FinOps tools to enhance their functionality and user experience.
What are people already doing?
Instant communication: Provides real-time responses to user queries
Convenience: Allows users to multitask while using the chat
Data collection: Gathers valuable data to improve products and services
Scalability: Can handle a growing user base without major changes
Brainstorming
Location
Chatbot in the lower right of the screen?
Limited room, doesn’t really have a home in the app
Search Bar at the bottom of the screen?
Covers the content on the screen, gives more room but still doesn’t have a home in the app
Challenges
Scrolling direction isn’t like a traditional webpage
No upfront visuals
No clickable graphs
Has to be able to understand english, can’t be as bad as Siri or Alexa
Perks
Able to show history of searches
Easily able to build on old searches
Simplified user interface
Show some pre-suggested searches
Transitions
Final Design
By starting with a question input instead of displaying numerous filter options, the chat-style interface remains straightforward. The example above demonstrates this simplification, allowing actionable items to appear above the fold.
While this approach works well for simple use cases, it may not be as effective for FinOps engineers conducting in-depth investigations. The constant scrolling of the chat history off the screen could become cumbersome.
